Panel Discussion

In Vancouver’s rapidly evolving housing landscape, the intersection of gender inclusivity, affordability, aging in place, and communal living models presents various challenges and opportunities.

This panel, brought together by East Vancouver Cohousing (https://www.eastvancohousing.ca) convenes seasoned experts from diverse yet complementary fields to navigate these intersections and discuss innovative, holistic solutions.

By fostering a dialogue across different housing paradigms, this panel highlights collaborative strategies, policy recommendations, and pioneering models reshaping the housing sector to be more inclusive, affordable, and community-oriented.

Panelists

Andrea Reimer – Long-time city councillor and former deputy Mayor of Vancouver. Host of a podcast about making room in housing for women and gender-diverse people brought to you by the Pan-Canadian Voice for Women’s Housing.

William Azaroff – CEO of Brightside Community Homes, whose mandate is safe and secure homes for those struggling to meet the demands of market housing and working towards a future where people of all income levels live within a vibrant and healthy community.

Daniel Oleksiuk - He co-founded Abundant Housing Vancouver, which advocates for rental and non-market homes. He also worked as a policy analyst for British Columbia’s Ministry of Housing and Social Development.

Jai Djwa – Moderator, and equity partner in East Vancouver Cohousing, a new cohousing development with completion slated for 2026.
